Instead of going to the hides on a visit to RSPB Old Moor we decided to have a walk on the new circular route that has been devised. This partly uses a cycle track, and takes you to all the various parts of the RSPB Dearne Valley site, including the biggest RSPB Old Moor.

The walk is very pleasant and takes in different types of habitat to not only look at birds. In fact we saw plenty of the harbinger of spring the Orange Tipped Butterfly. We also managed to see a Willow Warbler and heard (but didn’t manage to see!) a Sedge Warbler.

The walk is only a couple of miles, but took us quite a time with stopping and looking for the wildlife en route. The map in the pictures shows the route and the various parts of this brilliant reserve.
